DC Fire and EMS personnel were called at approximately 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25 to investigate a reported crash on Piney Branch Parkway near Beach Drive NW that left a woman trapped inside her vehicle.

Crews were able to extract the woman from the mangled truck, and managed to get her lifted up a steep embankment using ropes, pulleys, and ladders.

The woman was taken by paramedics to an area hospital with what were described as “serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.” Her condition was not immediately available on Wednesday, April 26.

Officials noted that reports of a second person involved in the crash who was able to escape the vehicle and get to an area hospital were unfounded.

It is unclear what caused the woman to crash into the ravine. The incident remains under investigation. No information about the victim has been released by the agency.
